How Glamp Mobile Got Started
From one van and a simple idea to a growing model for better campervan travel.
It Started with a
Question
What if vanlife didn’t have to feel complicated?

Building the First Van
The first Glamp Mobile campervan wasn’t just built to look good—it was built to work.
Every decision came from thinking through real trips:
- What makes a long drive comfortable?
- What do you actually use every day?
- What makes a van feel easy instead of overwhelming?
That process led to a four-season, fully equipped campervan designed to remove friction from the experience—something that felt approachable for first-time renters but still capable enough for longer trips.

The First Rentals
Once the van was on the road, the idea started to take shape.
Renters weren’t just looking for a vehicle—they were looking for confidence. They wanted to know they could actually do this, even if they had never driven a campervan before.
That changed the focus.
It wasn’t just about the van. It was about the experience around it:
- Clear walkthroughs
- Thoughtful setup
- Support when needed

Glinda and the Human Side of It
Early on, one of the first families to rent the van gave it a name.
They called it “Glinda,” after the Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz.
That moment stuck—not because of the name itself, but because it showed what people were really connecting with. This wasn’t just a rental. It was something they experienced, remembered, and made their own.
That’s the feeling Glamp Mobile is built around.

From One Van to a
Model
As more trips happened, patterns became clear.
Some layouts worked better than others. Some features mattered more than expected. Some parts of the process needed to be simplified.
Over time, that turned into a system:
- Vans designed to be easier to use
- A process that supports renters from start to finish
- A structure that could be repeated in other locations
That’s what led to the next step.

Introducing the GM2
The GM2 represents the evolution of everything learned from those early experiences.
It’s designed not just as a better campervan—but as the foundation for a broader model:
- A van that works for both renters and owners
- A layout that supports consistent experiences
- A starting point for building a Glamp Mobile location

What Glamp Mobile Is Becoming
Today, Glamp Mobile is still rooted in New Hampshire—but the vision is bigger.
The goal is to build a network of locally operated campervan rental locations, each connected through a shared platform and consistent standards.
That means:
- More places to start trips
- A more predictable experience for renters
- A clearer path for owners

Who’s Behind Glamp Mobile
Glamp Mobile was founded by James Scott in late 2021. He got pulled into vanlife a few years earlier through his love of music festivals—and realizing it was the best way to experience them.
Through his digital marketing work with a client in the RV space, he saw how few options there were for renting campervans, and how no one was really trying to simplify the often-daunting world of RVs through a franchise-style model.
He decided to jump in with both feet—working with a friend to design what became the GM1 and launching rentals through his own website.
450 guest nights later, he’s excited to share that concept more broadly—helping others open their own locations and bring vanlife to their local communities and travelers from around the world.
